Once I got through the whole character creation, this issue requiring the switching of tabs to progress was essentially gone. Interestingly, when I redid the IMP character creation (the game froze once or twice in the process), this issue disappeared for the parts of the process that I had already experienced (though I had to go through them again since a save hadn't existed), but it persisted for the parts that I hadn't. This had to be repeated for each progression. To continue, I would click to another tab in the virtual laptop screen, then return to the web tab, which caused the next section to appear. One strange thing I noticed (apparently independent of the freezes) and am deciding to note here in case it's of any significance in solving the freeze problem was that in the IMP character creation process, each time I tried to navigate to the next section, it would get stuck with a little pop-up box saying "Downloading" and simulating that with a little load bar that stayed at 0%. The freezes have basically made JA2 1.113 unplayable for me, which is unfortunate given my enthusiasm to get into the game. I've tested this at least four times, and the freezes continue to occur, so I'm reasonably confident that they're not just going to go away with time.

I have to alt-tab / ctrl-alt-delete in order to close the game at that point. The mouse cursor disappears, though the music keeps playing (though sometimes the music does not resume after a track has ended). I've experienced these freezes both in-menu (like at the virtual laptop) and in tactical view. However, after a short period of gameplay, my game always freezes. With all of these initial issues dealt with, I've been able to player JA2 a little. It is impossible to completely list even the most important features here, because there are so many of them.
